How To Watch Super Bowl 50 Online

It’s a big one. Super Bowl 50 will be the globally watched event that determines the NFL champion for the 2015 season.  It’s being called the Golden Super Bowl not only because a 50 year anniversary is called the “golden anniversary, but also because it’s being played in California (the Golden State) at the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers— a team named after the California Gold Rush miners of 1849.

If you’re at Levi’s Stadium to watch, congrats!  Most of the rest of America will watch the CBS telecast of the game in the United States.  And, as the world of NFL Football has continued to grow in popularity globally — according to official statistics, over 100 million people watch the event live every year—there are growing options to watch outside of the U.S. as well.

Countries That Will Broadcast Super Bowl 50

And here are some countries where you may also be able to watch Super Bowl 2016 live:

  • United Kingdom: BBC Signed an NFL deal in 2015 for 2 years; they will be broadcasting Super Bowl 50 and Super Bowl 2017 live on BBC Sports.  A pay option is SkySports for their subscribers.
  • Canada: CTV  is scheduled to broadcast Super Bowl 50 live in Canada.
  • Australia: Seven Network has the rights to broadcast 2016 Super Bowl.
  • Spain: Canal+ will POSSIBLY have live coverage of Super Bowl 50 in Spain.  Not confirmed yet.
  • Other European Countries: Check local listings.

It may seem odd that such a popular event isn’t simply available worldwide, but it is true.  Even the official online feed of the game was only made available since 2012 and is restricted to only U.S. IP addresses.

Americans can view via streaming at CBSSports.com– click here for the live stream link.  Americans can also watch via The CBS Sports Channel/App on Roku, AppleTV, XBOX One, Windows 10, and Chromecast. It’s a little more complicated for Americans who want to watch from a mobile device.  Live streaming is only available for eligible Verizon Wireless customers via the NFL mobile app.

Streaming the Super Bowl From Outside The US

  1. First of all, you’re going to need a good VPN service. This will enable you to get a U.S. based IP address which can bypass the restrictions put in place by the NFL.
  2. You can watch through a US proxy, but again the actual speed and quality depends on the number of users. With an event like the Super Bowl you’ll almost certainly have lags and long buffering time.
  3. The VPN’s U.S. IP  will allow you to go to one of the official sites like NFL.com or CBSSports.com.
  4. The official Super Bowl stream also includes DVR-like amenities like pause, replay, and even different camera angles from which to watch the action.
  5. Your VPN service should work with PC, Mac, and Linux computers. It should also work with tablets and your mobile devices.
